In many areas, Halloween can be cold, so if your child will be outside, keep that in mind as well.
Tweens and teens often prefer sexy and sophisticated over cute, and these are available, too. As much as possible, help them make choices that are tasteful and age-appropriate. If these are to be worn to school functions, they will have to comply with any dress code requirements.
For the most part, the princess costumes are beautiful, fun to wear and easy to find at popular outlets across the country. Best of all, they are available in sizes from infant to adult, so that the Princess in all of us is able to indulge our inner happy-ever-after fantasy.
Costs for new costumes start at around and up, but you might well find a quality secondhand costume for a fraction of that amount. Infant, teen and adult sizes tend to have seen less wear than toddler and girls sizes, because girls in these age groups are likely to use the costume to play dress-up on an everyday basis.
If you can sew (or know someone who can), handmade is also an option. Keep in mind that most of the Disney Princesses costumes contain a lot of detail, so they may require advanced skills as well as a sizable time commitment to sew.
There are many accessories available, such as wigs and shoes, to make your costume even more fun to wear. Don't overlook the appeal of buying or creating a trick-or-treat container that relates to your theme. These accessories, too, are available at different price points. It may be less desirable to buy these used, but it's worth a look. Thrift stores tend to have this type of stock on hand, but shop early, because it gets picked over really quickly.
As the calendar counts down to Halloween, the popular items are more likely to be sold out. The girls who have prepared early are the ones who will most likely to appear as their Princesses of choice.
